We know how hard it can be to ask for others to support your cause. For that reason we came up with a few ways to present your cause to others that will hopefully alleviate some of that stress.
Once you have created your support page, the easiest way to let people know what you are doing is to directly share it with those in your circle of influence. There are many ways to share it these days and different ways work for different people. Some of the successful ways we’ve seen are:
- Personal Invitation – Frankly, this is the best way to gain support. People want to help the people around them succeed in their goals. A lot of times all they need is just someone to ask them! A personal invitation gets the people around you excited for what you doing and helps them engage them in the cause you are supporting by supporting you.
- Email – Let’s face it, there are some people who just don’t do social media. (Can you blame them, really?) Email is a great way to get your story in front of someone. Make sure to include your personal connection to the cause you are raising support for. Share your experience(s) and help others understand how you’ve been impacted by what they do or why you feel as strongly as you do about raising support.
- Social Media – Social media is a great way to share your story to a lot of people. The downside is that you are constantly competing for others attention so you need to post often. Sharing your story, like in the email, is a great first step to helping others understand what you are doing. Ongoing, you will want to post frequently and change the ask slightly each time to keep it fresh and get different people involved in what you are doing. Below are some social media post examples and graphics to use.
The best way to collect donations is through your personal support page. This will allow a donation to be recorded in the donors name so they can receive a tax deduction. However, we’ve noticed that some don’t need or want the tax deduction for their donation and would prefer to use systems like Venmo or Zelle. In that case, you can ask them to make the donation to you personally and you can make the donation to your page on their behalf.
If you have registered and haven’t set up your personal support page, please set one up right now! This will allow you to receive support toward your goal and tell people your story of why it is you are adventuring with us! Feel free to upload your own image and customize it the way you like it to make it as personal as possible.
Social Media Examples
“I’m riding 50 miles today, will you support me by donating $1 per mile?”
Give Up Something
“$10 is what some families live on for a week. Would you be willing to skip lunch today to help me support a family in need?”
“Today I’ll be running a 10k for Syrian refugees in Lebanon. Will you support me by donating $5 today?”
